John A. DiRuzzo, M.D.

With a lifelong interest in science and the world around us, Dr. DiRuzzo’s early university studies were in science and engineering. The study of Human Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology, Acupuncture and Chinees Medicine were academic endeavors which eventually lead to pre-med studies, medical school, and his MD degree. He expanded his knowledge by working in Gastroenterology, Occupational Medicine, and other specialties which provided great experiences in clinical medicine and patient care.

Why is always the question John asks! Why do disease processes work the way they do? What do they do at the cell and molecular levels? These questions eventually led to pursuing studies in genetics, cell and molecular biology, and regenerative medicine.

Working in regenerative biology laboratories and researching scientific literature, John developed a perspective of understanding in health and diseases at the molecular level.

Requested to be a guest lecturer for a medical school promptly lead John to a position as an Associate Professor of Medicine, teaching basic medical sciences for 1st & 2nd year medical students as well as Genetics, Cell & Molecular Biology, Epidemiology, and Medical Ethics.

Current areas of study:

  • The effect of proteolytic enzymes on atherosclerosis.
  • Mechanisms of Dementia/Alzheimer’s: the role of mitochondrial insufficiency in these disease processes and effect of proteolytic enzymes on amyloid plaque on both external & internal neurons.
  • The cellular mechanisms of aging and molecular strategies for life extension.
